The New York Post had claimed that her father and manager Joe was pushing for his 29-year-old daughter to be a permanent replacement for the slot Abdul vacated earlier this month.
However, rumours that The Dukes Of Hazzard star will become the fourth judge on the popular singing competition have proved to be false. Her spokeswoman Cindi Berger told E! that the speculation is "not true at all".
Simpson, who is on location filming her reality series The Price Of Beauty, addressed the situation on her Twitter account.
She wrote: "So, I am in Thailand...But, of course, the post says I am in town trying to get to be the replacement for Paula Abdul...Do the lies ever stop????"
It was reported earlier that Natalie Cole also denied that she would be the new full-time panellist on Idol , while R&B singer Mary J. Blige was announced as a celebrity guest judge for auditions in Atlanta.
