DioGuardi: 'DeGeneres appointment genius'

American Idol judge Kara DioGuardi has praised the decision to add Ellen DeGeneres to the judging panel.

Fox recently confirmed that DeGeneres would be the permanent replacement for departed panellist Paula Abdul beginning next year.

Speaking to People, she said: "I think it's a genius decision. I wish I had thought of it.

"I know a little bit about Ellen from watching her show and I would say she would probably be somebody who would be fair in her criticism and will try to be as supportive as she possibly could."

She added: "[Ellen will get on with everyone] 100%. I was on her show once and she's lovely, generous, very kind. I think it's going to be great."

Abdul recently gave her support to the appointment of DeGeneres, saying: "She is wildly funny, talented and I wish her the best of luck!"
