The chatshow host was hired as the permanent replacement for Paula Abdul, who left the show in August.
The 51-year-old had previously said that she planned on following in the 'Straight Up' singer's footsteps on the programme and be "compassionate" towards contestants.
She now reveals that she can empathise with the singers, since she has spent a great deal of her life being "judged", TV Guide reports.
"I'm going to be a great judge because I've spent my whole life being judged," she said on the Tuesday episode of her talkshow. "So I know what it's like."

Fellow panellist Kara DioGuardi recently praised DeGeneres's appointment to the Fox competition series as "a great decision".
