Mario Vazquez has unexpectedly withdrawn from this season of American Idol.
The New Yorker, who had made it into the final 12, cited "personal issues" as the basis for his decision.
Idol producers were left scrambling after Vazquez confirmed he was pulling out. Fox has now confirmed that Nikko Smith, who was dropped from the show last Wednesday, will appear alongside the other eleven finalists for this week's public vote.
