FOX has issued rival network ABC with a legal threat over its plans for an American Idol exposé, according to the Drudge Report.
The special, titled Fallen Idol, is scheduled to air on ABC next Wednesday. Among the many "explosive claims" said to be examined is the suggestion that the producers and judges somehow manipulate the show's outcome. Several former contestants are believed to have given interviews backing up the claim.
"We got all these ridiculous questions yesterday from an ABC producer," an Idol source told the website. "ABC can not beat us with programming, so they are attempting to bring us down with lies and false charges."
Show judge Paula Abdul is expected to be central to most of the allegations in the show.
The source added: "[ABC] is trying to say Paula somehow cheats and picks favourite singers to nurture, in violation of some sort of network standards."
