The FOX Reality Channel has confirmed plans to launch a companion show alongside the upcoming fifth season of American Idol.
The format is likely to be similar to that of the well-established spinoff shows from the UK, combining behind-the-scenes footage with interviews and other original content.
In addition, the channel will replay season four in its entirety in the run-up to the premiere of season five on the broadcast network next month.
The spinoff show is likely to air in a Thursday slot from March following the conclusion of the auditions phase of the competition.
