American Idol executive producer Nigel Lythgoe has insisted that the show's new judges Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler have adapted well to the reality competition's format.

Speaking to TV Guide, Lythoe revealed that new judging panel is already providing valuable guidance to Idol's latest crop of contestants.

"They both listen intently, and don't make glib remarks," he said. "They give honest critiques."

The exec also suggested that the returning Randy Jackson has been re-invigorated by his two new colleagues.

He explained: "Randy is pulling his weight… He really has stepped up. He's essentially come out of himself. He's enjoying being in that position."

American Idol returns to Fox for a new season in January.
