American Idol contestant Pia Toscano has said that she aspires to do what Jennifer Lopez does on stage.

The season ten finalist was eliminated from the Fox competition last week following her Rock and Roll Hall of Fame performance in a shock result that had scores of celebrities taking to Twitter to voice their disbelief.

During an interview on Idol host Ryan Seacrest's KIIS-FM radio show this morning, the singer said that she appreciated Lopez's constructive criticism every week, telling Seacrest that she "needed that push" to maximise her performances.

I want to be able to do what Jennifer does one day on stage," she told said. "I was always very technical and worrying about every note and not commanding the stage like I should.

"I needed her to tell me, 'You need to take over that stage, put your nerves behind you and give it your all'. She pulled so much out of me and by the tour, I promise I will make her so proud."

Toscano, who sang 'River Deep, Mountain High' by Tina Turner during this week's Rock and Roll Hall of Fame week, previously described Lopez as "perfection".

"She has such a good way of telling you how to do things," she said. "Every constructive critique that I've gotten has helped me and it was true. She's absolutely stunning inside and out and I'm blessed to have had the chance to work with her."

It was recently rumoured that Toscano is already close to signing a record deal with Interscope Records, although the label has yet to confirm or deny the speculation.

This week's performance show will see the Top 8 performing memorable tracks from the movies, while first-ever American Idol winner Kelly Clarkson will perform on the results show alongside Jason Aldean. Rihanna will also take to the stage during the Thursday episode.

American Idol airs Wednesdays and Thursdays on Fox, while On Air With Ryan Seacrest airs mornings on KIIS-FM.
