Jennifer Lopez has said that her forthcoming reality TV show will not be a Latin version of American Idol.

Last week, Lopez and husband Marc Anthony confirmed that they have teamed with Idol producer Simon Fuller to launch Q'Viva! The Chosen, which aims to create the "ultimate live show celebrating Latin music, artistry and dance".

Speaking to Meredith Vieira on NBC's Today show on Monday, Lopez called the series a "docu-journey", and said that the project would not be an "auditioning-type show" like American Idol.

"We're going to go through Latin American to put together a Latin music show," Lopez explained.

The Idol judge added: "It won't be, like, an auditioning-type show. It's not that type of thing."

Lopez also discussed whether or not she would have been successful if she had auditioned for Idol as a fledgling popstar.

"When you're auditioning, you have good days and bad days. I think if I would have had a good day, I could have made it through. And if I would have had a bad day, they would have just sent me home," she said.

The singer will perform on Idol this Thursday.
