Chris Daughtry has criticised the American Idol judges for being "too fluffy" with contestants.

Appearing at the Duracell Holiday Insurance Programme, the rocker and former Idol contestant called out panellists Jennifer Lopez, Steven Tyler and Randy Jackson for not giving the tough feedback which will help hopefuls improve.

"I think last season everyone was being a little too fluffy with their comments. I really felt like they were too nice overall," Daughtry said.

"Criticism is a welcome thing and I think it was necessary for me to grow. Sometimes you have got to get to the truth."

Daughtry previously said that he believed Lopez and Tyler would be an "interesting" addition to the American Idol panel.

Last month, American Idol unveiled its first promo for the upcoming 11th season.
