Tonight, judges Randy Jackson, Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler head to Aspen, Colorado hoping to be impressed by the singing talent the city has to offer. Will an early star emerge, or will the Rocky Mountain city come up short? Stick with Digital Spy from 8/7c to find out!

20:58 Aspen found 31 singers to send through to Hollywood, and it's time to call it a night. Join us again tomorrow night, when American Idol will be headed to Houston, Texas.
20:54 It's the last audition of the night, and Magic Cyclops is the last up. Looking like a brunette Axl Rose, he's from Iowa but has a fake British accent and is just a total mess. I don't get it. It's the type of thing I just can't even entertain this because it's so ludicrous. He offers to sing Neil Diamond or "James Buffet". It's a mess. Predictably so.
Randy literally gets up and leaves for the bathroom, but not before asking him to take his sunglasses off. Jennifer also gets up and leaves and Steven follows suit. He's never given an actual answer, but it's pretty clear that it's a big no. I hope to see a write-up of this on this hipster's Tumblr or some improv site.
20:43 25-year-old Angie Zeiderman is... insane. There's no other way to put it. She wants to open for Lady GaGa and then be best friends with her. She also describes herself as a "vintage glitter queen" and I've heard enough before she even starts to sing. She performs 'When You Got it, Flaunt It' from The Producers and flails all over in her too-tight mini-dress. She also gives me a minor case of tinnitus.
Randy is turned off by show tunes, but Jennifer loves musicals and thinks that not many auditionees could put on such a varied show. She asks Angie to sing another song, which she does - admittedly, she has a voice, but she still seems slightly mentally unstable. Randy's mind is changed by the second song and she's sent straight through to Hollywood.
20:38 We see a little string of terrible auditions, including a pseudo-rocker, a beat-boxer and some other people who are so terrible as to be beyond description. Ouch. So hopefully 19-year-old Jayson Jackson can change things up with his original piece called 'So Hard'. You guys know I'm not easily impressed, but he's got a great voice - part Dru Hill, part Ne-Yo. The song leaves a bit to be desired but his voice could be on a record tomorrow and end up on the radio, without a doubt.
Randy thinks it was "crazy", while Jennifer calls him a "lover" and says that he has something special. It's three 'yes'es for Jairon and he'll be going through to Hollywood.

20:31 Shelby Tweten, who has struggled with depression since 4th grade, has used singing to help her overcome her difficulties. She sings Carrie Underwood's 'Temporary Home' and is quite good, especially for only 17 years old. She's got a lot of soul to her voice and was quite natural.
All the judges call it "beautiful", with Jennifer admitting that Shelby's performance brought tears to her eyes. Randy loves that she's fearless as a singer but has the skills to back it up. Steven is also impressed (and oddly speechless), and it's a unanimous 'yes' for her.
20:29 Waitress Alanna Snare, 26, sings Dolly Parton's 'Jolene' - or should I say, she butchers it! She can't even hold a note and it's just terrible. Steven says that she's "all over the place with melody". Randy thinks she's a cool person but a terrible singer and she gets three 'no's.
20:22 18-year-old Haley Smith loves the great outdoors, works three jobs and lives in a log cabin. She's clearly a total hippy and when she sings Rufus and Chaka Kahn's 'Tell Me Something Good', the judges are immediately impressed. She's got a great tone to her voice and it's totally effortless. I like her a lot - probably more than I've liked any other audition this season.
Randy loves that she put a new spin on a classic, while Steven says that he's honoured to be there listening to her voice as she has something special. Jennifer imagines that she's even more comfortable when surrounded by instruments, which she agrees. All of the judges appreciate her ability to just be her own unique self, and of course she gets a ticket to Hollywood.
20:14 Tealana Hedgespeth has something to prove, as she's been living in her twin sister's shadow and is ready to shine on her own now. She's singing a Melissa Etheridge track and it's... terrible. I sort of feel bad for her as she clearly really wants it but there's not even a glimmer of hope in that voice. While she sings, Jennifer collapses into laughter when Steven threatens to ask her to sing an additional song.
Steven says that she should listen to her recorded voice back so that she can hear what they hear, while Jennifer and Randy also think that she's cute but ultimately not good enough.
20:12 A hot streak has kicked off, with country crooner Richie Law and soul singers Devan Jones and Mathenee Trego all sailing through to the next round.

20:09 The thousands of hopefuls are lined up bright and early and next up is 28-year-old Curtis Gray. He's grown up playing keyboard and singing so he should be pretty good. He sings a pleasant enough version of Boyz II Men's 'It's So Hard to Say Goodbye to Yesterday'.
Randy thinks the song choice was brilliant. Jennifer says that he's good looking and sings great, while Steven declares him a "major talent" and gives him an easy yes. The others follow suit and he's got his golden ticket.
20:03 First up is 24-year-old music teacher Jenni Schick who is about as loud and rambunctious (and slightly obnoxious) as you could imagine. She's also got a pretty big crush on the "gorgeous" Steven, so we know her sanity is questionable already. She sings Pat Benatar's 'Heartbreaker' and seems to be screaming through the entire thing. The judges seem to be into it, so perhaps something is wrong with my ears tonight.
Randy loves that she's "wild, crazy and anything can happen". She gets a yes from all three judges, with Jennifer remarking that she likes her "energy". Jenni also gets her kiss from Steven and we'll be seeing her again in Hollywood.
20:00 And we're off! What will Colorado have in store tonight? Seeing as things have been pretty tame thus far this season (read: slightly boring), I hope some real characters come out of the woodwork!
