The 27-year-old mother-of-two opened her audition by telling the judging panel that her ex-husband had "held her back" but now she was ready to pursue her singing dreams.
Kellogg said: "I have two beautiful little boys. I was married and he held me back from doing what I wanted to do and this is what I wanted to do.
"He's a basketball player and I pursued his dreams with him and then he decided to go and pursue other women rather than basketball, and here I am."
Her audition song choice of 'You're No Good' prompted judge Steven Tyler to say he liked her sense of humour, while Lopez said she was "feeling" the song and Randy Jackson praised her "attitude and vibe".
After receiving a ticket to Hollywood, banker Kellogg asked Lopez - who has 3-year-old twins - how she juggled being a singer with being a mother.
Before Lopez could fully answer Kellogg's question, the hopeful's young sons burst in to the audition room, accompanied by the rest of her family.
"You don't leave your kids," said Lopez. "See, your kids are right here, my kids are right out there. You have to be happy so they are happy. It takes a village to raise babies. My mum is here with me too. When you have dreams you make them happen and they're only better for it."
