Rosado, who sang a shaky rendition of 'Ribbon in the Sky' on Wednesday, was sent home after ending up in the bottom four alongside Shannon Magrane, Elise Testone and Jermaine Jones.
After the public vote, he ended up in the bottom two with Testone, with the judges granted the right to choose who stays for one week only as part of a twist to mark the show's 400th episode.
Of America's decision, judge Randy Jackson said, "It wasn't either of their best performances... I don't think it's exactly right."
The judges ultimately decided to save Testone, who received less than stellar comments for her Whitney Houston cover on Wednesday evening's show.
In reaction to the elimination, Rosado said only that his time on American Idol has been "an amazing experience".

In a surprise move, Joshua Ledet and Erika van Pelt were moved back into the running after earlier being put in the bottom three alongside Testone and Shannon Magrane in the girls' category, and Rosado and Jermaine Jones for the boys.
The Top 12 now includes Ledet, van Pelt, Jones, Testone and Sanchez along with Phillip Phillips, Hollie Cavanagh, Colton Dixon, Heejun Han, Skylar Laine, DeAndre Brackensick and Shannon Magrane.
Tonight's episode included a performance from Season 10 alumna Lauren Alaina, who sang her hit country song 'Georgia Peaches'.
Mary J Blige, who mentored all thirteen contestants on the performance episode, sang her latest single 'Why' on the main stage, while all the Top 13 contestants performed a rendition of Wonder's 'As'.
American Idol continues next Wednesday (March 14) on Fox.
