American Idol contestant Phillip Phillips was rushed to hospital today (March 8), according to reports.

The singer, who performed a well-received version of classic Stevie Wonder track 'Superstition' on Wednesday evening's show, complained of stomach pains on Thursday morning and was promptly taken for treatment.

Phillips's father told TMZ that his 21-year-old son was treated for kidney stones five times during 2011.

American Idol host Ryan Seacrest confirmed on Twitter that Phillips was back in time for rehearsals on Thursday afternoon and was "doing okay".

Phillips finished top of a Digital Spy poll last week asking readers which of the male hopefuls performed best. He finished second in this week's readers' poll behind Jessica Sanchez.

He received praise from the panel on Wednesday night (March 7), with judge Randy Jackson telling the singer that he is full of anticipation about what twist he will put on a song during his performance.
