American Idol was the most-watched programme last night (Wednesday), although ratings were generally down across the board.

Featuring an appearance from Queen's Brian May and Roger Taylor, the singing contest scored 16.5m (4.6) for Fox between 8pm and 10pm.

Survivor: One World - CBS's only new airing - pulled in 9.5m (2.6) in the 8pm hour, while Betty White's Off Their Rockers had 5.8m (1.6) for NBC. Best Friends Forever followed at 8.30pm with just 2.7m (0.8).

Rock Centre with Brian Williams climbed to 3.8m (0.9) at 9pm, then Law & Order: SVU drew 6.4m (1.6) on the Peacock Network.

Don't Trust the B---- in Apartment 23 (4.9m/2.0) suffered from a lower-than-usual lead-in from a Modern Family repeat at 9.30pm, after which 6.8m (2.0) watched 10pm's Revenge.

America's Next Top Model held 1.1m (0.5) for The CW in the 9pm hour.
