It was announced earlier today (July 23) that the 'Hero' songstress had officially signed on to serve as a judge on the Fox reality series.
According to The Wrap, Carey's $17 million deal has allegedly made her the highest-paid judge on a singing competition show.
Carey steps into the vacancy left by former judges Steven Tyler and Jennifer Lopez, who both announced their departures from the show earlier in the month.
The paycheck is apparently the same amount requested by Lopez before her departure from the programme.
Lopez reportedly signed a $12 million contract for her time as judge.
An official announcement on the full American Idol judging panel is expected from Fox in the coming weeks.
