Steven Tyler has admitted that he has mixed feelings about his two seasons on American Idol.

Tyler announced his American Idol departure earlier this month in order to focus on Aerosmith's tour and new album Music from Another Dimension.

The 'Walk This Way' singer admitted that he has mixed feelings on his tenure on the Fox series in a new interview with Rolling Stone.

"[It was] not my cup of tea... I loved it and hated it," Tyler declared. "It was a great job, I sat next to J-Lo and I made a ton of money. It was a moment in life and it became larger than life."

He also revealed that he took the American Idol job at the height of Aerosmith's squabbles in 2010.

"It was something to do while the storm blew by, to be honest," he said.

Aerosmith have since patched up their conflicts and are in the midst of their summer 'Global Warming Tour'.

Jennifer Lopez has also exited American Idol, but Fox executives announced last week that Mariah Carey will join the judging panel.

Brad Paisley is also reportedly being considered for American Idol, with Nick Jonas and Pharrell Williams apparently in the running as well.

American Idol returns to Fox in 2013, with open auditions currently under way across the US.
