'Idol' Keith Urban on Mariah Carey, Nicki Minaj spat: "I was the UN"

By
American Idol judge Keith Urban has made light of the highly publicised spat between Mariah Carey and Nicki Minaj.

Minaj was filmed during Tuesday's (October 2) auditions screaming at fellow judge Carey after disagreeing about a contestant. Production was ultimately halted for the day.

American Idol continued auditions on Wednesday (October 3) without a further incident, but Minaj is said to be furious with the show's producers.

Urban addressed the altercation while attending the New York premiere of his wife Nicole Kidman's film The Paperboy last night.

"I was the UN," the country singer quipped to Extra.

Urban also insisted that Carey and Minaj's disagreement has not put a damper on his experience judging American Idol.

"I love working with passionate people. I love artists," he explained. "Everyone just sort of expressing themselves. It's a very alive and very invigorating work environment. A lot of passion."

The singer then joked: "Randy's the craziest – so, you know, unpredictable."

Nick Cannon came to his wife Carey's defence on Wednesday, saying in a television interview that she is not "moved by the theatrics and the pageantry of it all".

American Idol returns to Fox in January 2013.
