"It's definitely interesting. Keith Urban is an amazing musician, and I'm curious to see how Mariah Carey and Nicki Minaj will judge," Phillips explained.

The 22-year-old singer also said he's confident that the American Idol judging panel will be able to find a true superstar.

"I didn't think
I was that good, so you never know what [the judges] are looking for," he joked.

Carrie Underwood also recently praised Minaj, Carey and Urban's addition to the reality competition.

American Idol returns in January on Fox.
