Scotty McCreery has said that he is excited to see Keith Urban judge American Idol.

Urban, Mariah Carey and Nicki Minaj have joined American Idol's judging panel with Randy Jackson for the 2013 season, replacing Steven Tyler and Jennifer Lopez.

McCreery was coached by Lopez and Tyler when he won American Idol, but he has told Billboard that he is intrigued by the show's new judges.

"I think it's cool," he told the magazine. "I think it will be interesting to see Keith Urban out there in the middle of Nicki Minaj and Mariah Carey. It will be interesting to see how he handles that."

The 'Trouble with Girls' singer went on to express his pride at having won the Fox reality competition.

"I embrace it. I think as an artist, it's important for me to grow and move on from that, to get focused on Nashville, and the industry, but I would never shy away from where I came from or how I got here," he explained.

The new American Idol judging panel was also recently praised by this year's winner Phillip Phillips, who said he is confident the show can find the next pop superstar.

Fox premieres American Idol's new season in January 2013.
