Randy Jackson: 'I'm the super glue of American Idol'

By
Randy Jackson has jokingly referred to himself as the "super glue" of American Idol.

The record producer is the sole remaining original American Idol judge, having been joined this season by Nicki Minaj, Mariah Carey and Keith Urban.

Speaking to Parade, Jackson suggested that he is very proud of the Fox talent competition's legacy.

"I'm the super glue of Idol! It's great. I love this show," he declared. I think it's the greatest talent show of its kind. The kids that have come off the show have done so well."

He continued: "It's proof of concept that Idol really works. Just look at Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood, Fantasia Barino, Chris Daughtry, Jennifer Hudson, and Jordin Sparks.

"The show has really worked. It's great to be back, and I must say, this new panel of judges is really strong."

Jackson also suggested that his chemistry with Idol's new judges is unlike anything in the show's 11 previous seasons.

"These guys are all artists, and there's a fun, passionate, caring vibe from them. They're really pulling for these kids," he explained. "They're now calling me the mean one because I cut to the chase really quick!"

The judge concluded: "It's a great panel. We've got four distinct personalities and opinions. It's definitely hard to get us all to agree. There's very little unanimous voting. Two will like something and two won't. It's definitely very interesting."

American Idol premieres its new season on Wednesday (January 15) with coverage of open auditions in New York.

The series airs Wednesdays and Thursdays on Fox in the US, and on Thursdays and Fridays on 5* in the UK.
