Wednesday ratings: 'American Idol' premiere lowest since first season

Fox won Wednesday night's ratings in the 18-49 demographic and total viewers.

American Idol's season 12 premiere was 19% down from last year, but still easily topped the night with a 6.0 18-49 demo rating and 17.9 million viewers at 8pm.

However, this was the lowest ratings for a season premiere since its first run in 2002.

ABC's The Middle dropped a tenth from last week to 2.3 (8.2m) at 8pm. The Neighbors dipped two tenths to 1.9 (6.16m) at 8.30pm.

Modern Family fell four tenths to 4.3 (11.01m) at 9pm, while Suburgatory was down two tenths to 2.4 (6.35m) at 9.30pm. Nashville was up a tenth to 2.2 (6.54m).

CBS's Criminal Minds was down three tenths to 2.8 (12.53m) at 9pm. CSI was up a tenth to 2.3 (11.1m) at 10pm.

The CW's Arrow climbed a tenth from its previous episode to 1.1 (3.12m) at 8pm. Supernatural matched its previous 0.9 score (2.07m) at 9pm.
