Sanjaya Malakar has become the sixth hopeful to be eliminated from this year's American Idol.

The 17-year-old from Seattle, Washington captivated viewers with his flamboyant hairstyles and endearingly awkward performances, but he failed to win over the judges.

Simon Cowell described his rendition of Bonnie Raitt's 'Something To Talk About' as "utterly horrendous".

There are now six remaining hopefuls competing for this year's American Idol crown, which will be decided in May.
