Melinda Doolittle has become the tenth hopeful to be eliminated from this year's American Idol competition.
The 29-year-old from Brentwood, Tennessee failed to make the TV singing contest's final despite giving spirited performances of Whitney Houston's 'I Believe In You And Me', Tina Turner's 'Nutbush City Limits' and Peggy Lee's 'I'm A Woman'.
Simon Cowell expressed disappointment at her elimination, saying: "My commiserations, Melinda, because you are one heck of a singer."
Doolittle's departure leaves Blake Lewis and Jordin Sparks to contest this year's final.
