Devin Velez has become the third contestant to depart season 12 of American Idol.
The 18-year-old from Chicago fell into the bottom three along with Lazaro Arbos and Burnelle Taylor on the basis of this week's nationwide vote.
Velez's performance of 'Somos Novios (It's Impossible)' was not enough to convince judges Randy Jackson, Nicki Minaj, Keith Urban and Mariah Carey to save him from the axe on the 450th episode of the show.
He had finished in last place in this week's Digital Spy reader poll with only 3.4% of the vote.
This week's Digital Spy reader vote was topped by Angie Miller, who beat Amber Holcomb by around 5%.
Thursday night's musical guests were OneRepublic, who joined forces with Smash star and American Idol season five runner-up Katharine McPhee to perform current single 'If I Lose Myself'.
Colton Dixon, who appeared on season 11 of the show and placed seventh, also returned to the Idol stage for a performance of 'Love Has Come For Me'.
American Idol airs on Wednesdays and Thursdays at 8/7c on Fox in the US, and on Thursdays and Fridays at 8pm on 5* in the UK.
