Hudgens wanted to audition for 'Idol'

The actress was too young to appear on the US singing contest and planned to audition when she turned 16.
But she decided to take the role in the teen Disney movie which launched her into a household name. She released her singing career last year following the film's success.
Hudgens admitted: "I was 15 at the time ... and you had to be 16 to audition. So I thought, 'One more year.'
"Then, when I turned 16, High School Musical came along and I got to do it. So I thought I'd skip on American Idol."
