Ryan Starr out in "American Idol"

Ryan Starr became the fourth finalist eliminated from FOX's "American Idol" last night after receiving the fewest phone votes from viewers.

Nikki McKibbin and Ryan were named as two of three contestants who racked up the fewest votes in their favour. The third was a shocker -- show favourite Justin Guarini.

His appearance in the bottom three can be attributed to his blatant over-confidence on camera. In last week's edition, after receiving a slight criticism from Brit judge Simon Cowell, he ignored the comments and asked the audience to give their appreciation for his performance.

Hosts Ryan Seacrest and Brian Dunkleman eased the pressure for Nikki, who was relieved to discover that she'll be back on next week's show to perform 80s songs.

After a tense wait over an ad break, Ryan was named as the fourth finalist to get the boot, leaving Justin safe. For one week more, at least.
