Webber applauds theatrical 'Idol'
Andrew Lloyd Webber has said that he had a "bizarre time" as a guest mentor on American Idol.

The composer described the show as "highly theatrical" and claimed there was a contestant good enough to play Nancy if Oliver! were to open on Broadway.

Webber said: "I had a great time on American Idol. It was a wonderful, highly theatrical and somewhat bizarre evening.

"If ever Cameron Mackintosh brings Oliver! to Broadway there was a girl who would be one of the greatest Nancys ever."

Commenting on individual performances, Webber said: "We had Jason, a guy with dreadlocks, singing 'Memory' and a heart-stopping moment when Brooke, who gave a sensational performance at the dress rehearsal, forgot the lyric and had to start again at the beginning of 'You Must Love Me', which is something that has never happened in the history of Idol."

American Idol airs on ITV2 at 9pm tonight.
