'American Idol' down to final four
Published Thursday, May 1 2008, 10:30 BST | By Simon Reynolds

The 24-year-old from Arizona was eliminated after receiving the lowest number of public votes. White performed 'I'm A Believer' and 'I Am... I Said' for the Neil Diamond-themed night, prompting Simon Cowell to admit he "really, really hated the first song".
Diamond, who performed 'Pretty Amazing Grace' on the show, praised White's version of 'I Am... I Said', describing it as "a difficult song to pull off".
After host Ryan Seacrest announced White's departure, the singer nodded, saying "yep" before starting to cry. Still upset, she struggled with her show-closing performance as her voice noticeably cracked.
Jason Castro, David Cook, David Archuleta and Mercado are the final four American Idol contestants. The winner will be announced during the live finale this month.
