A spokesperson for the wife of former Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney confirmed to TMZ that ABC did recently contact Ann about competing on the reality show's new season.
"Ann Romney was approached, but she declined. She will not be appearing on Dancing with the Stars," a Romney family representative insisted.
A separate insider told the website that Ann initially was enthusiastic during meetings with producers, but a deal could never be reached.
Speculation that Ann would join the series began during last fall's campaign when she cited Dancing with the Stars as one of her favourite shows in several interviews.
Dancing with the Stars's spring season will see a return to all-new celebrities competing for the mirrorball trophy, following on from last year's All-Stars season.
The new season of Dancing with the Stars premieres Monday, March 18 at 8/7c on ABC.
