'Dancing' Week 4 - What the judges said

By
This week, the remaining celebrities made their fourth appearance on the dancefloor performing one of four new dances to the competition: the Two-Step, Bolero, Lambada or Charleston.

Mya remained at the top of the leaderboard after she scored two 10s for her Lambada, while Melissa Joan Hart also nabbed her first perfect score of the season from Bruno for her 1920s inspired Charleston.

Here's what the judges had to say:

Chuck Liddell and Anna Trebunskaya - Two-Step

Len: "I thought the lift was very, very good and you bring entertainment to the show. There's a novelty value about you because you don't expect you to be able to dance but eventually you have to come down to the fact that this is a dance competition and your quality of dancing isn't there." (5)

Bruno: "You are a nutter, aren't you? You didn't so much dance but raided the Two-Step. You bring carnage and mayhem in everything you do but it still managed to look like a Two-Step. I can't believe it!" (6)

Carrie Ann: "Half of this competition is whether or not you suit the dance. You definitely suited the Two-Step the best! It was working. You may not have a lot of grace but you never let the dance beat you and I love it." (6)

Total: 17

Melissa Joan Hart and Mark Ballas - Charleston

Bruno: "You brought the 1920s Hollywood flapper back to life! I felt like I was in the 1920s watching a flicker. You had the role 110% it was fantastic." (10)

Carrie Ann: "That is your dance. You need to take that on the road! All the dancing was fantastic, you had everything. I'm so proud." (9)

Len: "The Charleston is all about the three Es - energy, excitement and entertainment. You ticked all the boxes." (9)

Total: 28

Natalie Coughlin and Alec Mazo - Bolero

Carrie Ann: "I'm kind of on the fence. I thought it was beautiful and I definitely appreciated that you went for the difficulty but I saw a little bit more of a struggle in the movements this time than I did last week. It was still very good and keep going for the more difficult, I encourage that." (8)

Len: "I thought it had a beautiful, lyrical movement to it. Alec, I thought your choreography had great romance - I would have liked a little bit more romance between the two of you but I liked it a lot." (8)

Bruno: "I'm very happy to see you have found your basic instinct because at times it was like watching Sharon Shone. Beautiful and dangerous and on top of your game. Watch your arms because once you go into swinger mode the whole beautiful edifice collapses. Keep Sharon, she knows what to do with a man." (8)

Total: 24

Aaron Carter and Karina Smirnoff - Lambada

Len: "It was a bit of a walk on the wild side. I like your enthusiasm but I think you should have spent your time on getting the rhythm of the dance and all the raunchiness rather than fiddling about with the backflip." (6)

Bruno: "For once, he is absolutely right. I do appreciate you put everything you had into it. Imagine you get a script and character. The character of this is Gilles Marini. You are not doing that. You have to translate a feeling through your body. You can't force and force and hope for the best." (6)

Carrie Ann: "You have to chill out. You are trying too hard. You move well, you're a good-looking guy, you're just going way over the top and it's really hard to watch. It makes people turn off you." (6)

Total: 18

Mark Dacascos and Lacey Schwimmer - Two-Step

Bruno: "You should roll in the hay more often because your confidence was much improved! Great fun, great energy but you lost your footing and it's so obvious in this dance and I can't let it go." (7)

Carrie Ann: "Thank you! Finally the confidence is there! You were grounded, connected with Lacey and I felt the chemistry between you. It was the most exciting Two-Step so far." (8)

Len: "I thought it was great choreography. I love the way you spin and I like the fact that you weren't just hanging there. You really helped Lacey with all her spins. Little bit heavy in the footwork but well done." (7)

Total: 22

Kelly Osbourne and Louis van Amstel - Charleston

Carrie Ann: "Watching you dance is like watching a little birdie get their wings and learn to fly. You see the joy, you get something right and your face lights up. You have a very specific look and you had to live up to it - you did." (8)

Len: "You came out with confidence and performed the dance. I think that has been part of your problem. You showed us a proper dance but I would have liked a little bit more swivel during the Charleston section. Overall, very well done." (7)

Bruno: "I love Liza Minnelli! I love Joel Gray! Great tribute to them. It was very good and a very good performance. You should be happy." (8)

Total: 23

Joanna Krupa and Derek Hough - Lambada

Len: "I know what I want for tomorrow night's encore! Derek you never disappoint whatever dance it is, you come up with fantastic choreography. Little bit repetitious here and there but great job, thoroughly enjoyed it." (8)

Bruno: "I tell you folks, don't try this at home without taking the necessary precaution. It was like watching When Animals Get Physical. Bursting with sexual energy, I've had enough now for the next six months!" (9)

Carrie Ann: "I hope the children were in bed! It worked because the Lambada is all about passion and sex and it is fuelled by the crotch area. Nice work!" (9)

Total: 26

Donny Osmond and Kym Johnson - Charleston

Bruno: "This really shows a showman in his element. I like all the theatrical touches you put into it. You were in control, it was like watching the theatre. Very well done, great performance but you have to be a bit sharper in the kicks for the Charleston." (8)

Carrie Ann: "It was excellent because you played to your strengths. You two move exactly in sync together, you definitely travel as a team. But because you move so well as a team I saw when you stumbled! It was good, very good. We have high expectations and I think you met them except for that." (8)

Len: "You look good, you dance good and watching you does you good." (8)

Total: 24

Michael Irvin and Anna Demidova - Bolero

Carrie Ann: "I don't think we have to doubt the romance side, I saw that happening this week. You are such a great spirit and I see you so much committed and you are such a wonderful gracious partner but there wasn't enough dancing. It was too many poses and not enough dancing." (5)

Len: "It was slightly economic with the movement, I agree. But as far as I'm concerned, of the four dances we have seen, this is possibly the most difficult because it needs so much control. The highest mark I have given you so far is four but I can assure you that is going to go up a lot because I thought it was good." (6)

Bruno: "Your dancing is a little bit like the economy. Every week it is supposed to be getting better but nothing happens. I can see the romance but what about the goods, what about the steps?" (5)

Total: 16

Louie Vito and Chelsie Hightower - Two-Step

Len: "It was just a serious of walks and then you stopped and Chelsie did something and then you walked on again. It didn't have enough going on. You've had two weeks of dances that didn't suit, hopefully you'll be back next week and knock your socks off." (5)

Bruno: "For a Two-Step it was slightly dazed and confused. The timing was a little bit dubious. You went through it by the skin of your teeth and your charm and smile, not enough!" (6)

Carrie Ann: "That is such a great song, it gets you but I didn't feel any of the music coming from you. Chelsie, if you were trying to compensate you were working it sister! But unfortunately our eyes are on Louie and you can't distract us that much. There was a little bit too much shuffling going on." (5)

Total: 16

Mya and Dmitry Chaplin - Lambada

Bruno: "That was an erotic, exotic rollercoaster! You want to ride that over and over again until you are left exhausted and exhilarated!" (10)

Carrie Ann: "That was amazing. Not only did you have the sexy and raunch but you brought sophistication and dance and made it very classy." (10)

Len: "I never feel you will ever go wrong, I never find your routines boring. You set your own standards and for me your standard is really high and my expectations are really high and I felt in the Lambada I was going to get a bit more." (8)
