The singer was forced into a dance-off against Iron Chef America's Mark Dacascos, despite scoring two perfect tens from the judges on Monday night.
Speaking to OK, his partner Karina Smirnoff said: "He's shaken. He did not expect it.
"I didn't let Aaron watch Mark’s dance or listen to what the judges said, because I don't want anything else going through his head."
Carter and Smirnoff were saved in the dance-off after earning rave reviews for their jive, meaning Dacascos became the tenth celebrity to leave the show.
NFL star Michael Irvin was also eliminated during the live results show, which featured performances from Rod Stewart, Colbie Caillat and Hough Ballas, the rock band formed by Dancing professionals Derek Hough and Mark Ballas.
