His sister Kim Kardashian previously appeared on the seventh season of the show, where she was the third celebrity to be booted from the dance floor.
During an interview on Good Morning America, Rob was asked why he had decided to join Dancing with the Stars in light of his sister's relatively early exit.
"I feel like more than 80% of the world wouldn't get up in front of 40 million people and dance on national television and if I have the confidence to do that then that's a step ahead in my life for me in terms of personal goals," he explained.
"I will gain a lot of confidence on all aspects right there."
As for beating his sibling's dance floor exit, the reality star joked: "My sister lasted like three weeks... She is a terrible dancer as is so if I don't beat her it would suck! I definitely need to beat her, that's just a little joke in the family."
In a separate interview with OK, 24-year-old Rob said that it was his mother Kris Jenner who suggested he take part on Dancing with the Stars.
He said: "My mum pretty much forced me to do this show. She did the same thing to Kim and now she's doing it to me... [She said] just always smile and be yourself and let people see a side of you that they've never seen when they watch our show."
Kim recently sent a good luck message to Rob via Twitter, joking that she hopes her brother does better than she did: "So excited my bro @RobKardashian is gonna be on Dancing With the Stars! Good luck Robbie! I just hope u do better than me...not too hard! LOL (sic)"
He also received messages of support from sisters Khloe and Kourtney.
