Here's what the judges had to say about their first performances:
Dance: The pair perform a modern take on the cha cha, though Artest is in for a rude awakening during practice as he struggles to grasp the grace and "get comfortable" with his new undertaking.
Len thinks it lacked cha cha content and thinks the footwork was "atrocious", calling it "all sizzle and no sausage" since it was entertaining but was nothing special. Bruno says that he has "power and flare" but admits that his height may hold him back and urges him to work harder on his technique to make sure it's not as noticeable.
Carrie Ann appreciates that he is eccentric but still sexy, claiming that it worked but was technically terrible. "The fun factor was there, though!" she adds.
Score: 14 out or 30
Dance: While practicing the classical ballroom style, Rob struggles to stay focused but appreciates being "bossed around" by Cheryl and thinks it will help him go further in the competition.
Bruno thinks that Rob looked "petrified" and advises him to take control and feel the music more instead of being so uptight in order to aid his performance. Carrie Ann disagrees, insisting that she sees potential in him and loves that he followed all of Cheryl's directions. She does believe that he should loosen up more, but ultimately believes it was a success.
Len thinks it was "too careful" and wants him to let it go more, admitting that he "wasn't impressed but wasn't depressed".
Score: 16 out of 30
Dance: Kristin admits that this is a "breath of fresh air" during rehearsals and wants to dedicate herself to doing as well as she can as well as changing the public's misconceptions about her.
Carrie Ann thinks that Kristin has the perfect body for dancing and admits that she's "excited" to watch her progress as she has good movement and sparkles on the floor. She also appreciates Kristin's ability to follow directions and do so well at such a difficult genre.
Len loves that there was "a lot going on" but thinks that she went into her shell a bit too much on the floor out of nervousness. Bruno says that she has the "full package" to be a great dancer but urges her to centre herself more when doing spins as well as paying closer attention to the precision of the moves.
Score: 20 out of 30
Dance: Chynna wants to challenge herself with the competition and try something different to her usual undertakings. She dedicates herself fully during rehearsals to the difficult ballroom genre.
Len congratulates her for performing one of the best first dances ever on the show, while Bruno thinks that she looked like she was stepping out of a dream". He also loves the touches of ballet and the musicality which she seems to come to naturally, though he still advises her to "clean it up".
Carrie Ann calls it "gorgeous" and is excited to see her perform next week as she has the grace and sense of a dancer.
Score: 22 out of 30
Dance: Nancy admits to knowing nothing about the cha cha but insists that she has the "most heart" in the competition which will make up for her age and lack of skill.
Bruno jokes that he had no idea she was so "lavishly gifted", saying that she has the moves but lacks confidence in her abilities. "I know you can do it, come on!" he adds.
Carrie Ann loves that she's got "spunk and sass" and might be the happiest contestant they've ever had, but advises her to work harder at remembering the choreography. Len admits that he found it "underwhelming" as it lacked flair and attack for the sake of technicality.
Score: 14 out of 30
Dance: David is impressed with the beauty of the Viennese dance as he describes himself as "romantic at heart", an attitude which Kym appreciates because he knows how to have fun while remaining serious, something that makes him a great student.
Carrie Ann admits that he got lost in the dancing but really liked it nonetheless as he has a "beautiful vulnerability". She can feel that he was determined to get it, just urges him to not try as hard so that he can be a bit better.
Len appreciates that he came straight out into the dance and is impressed with his ability to keep going despite making a few missteps. Bruno thinks that he "looked the part" but was confused by his inability to stick with one character and one frame of mind.
Score: 18 out of 30
Dance: The pair have a bit of a problem getting over the language barrier as Elisabetta is from Italy, but she insists that they will overcome the issue and "speak only one language" of the dance they are performing.
Len didn't like the opening sequence as he does not like props and says that he "didn't mind" the main performance. However, he found that the latter segment suffered and became "too weak" when she lost confidence.
Bruno thinks that Elisabetta danced well with Val, but admits that it definitely "fell apart" during the solo segments of the routine. Carrie Ann says that Val made her look great but wants her to bring out her inner model's confidence and stay strong when she's on her own on the floor, as well.
Score: 15 out of 30
Dance: Hope has concerns as she is an athlete and not a dancer but Maks thinks it is a positive thing that she has a sports background. However, he has to try and help her to find elegance and femininity in their ballroom genre.
Bruno thinks that she has a bright future on the show as she has a lot of drive and attack but admits that she needs to work on her control as she is incredibly strong and not used to more dainty moves.
Carrie Ann is impressed with the body connection between the pair as she understands how difficult it is to do, but agrees that she needs to let it flow a bit more. Len loves the hold and posture as well as her rotation and thinks it was great. He adds that it just needs a bit more fluidity and softness in movement.
Score: 21 out of 30
Dance: Carson admits that he's not very coordinated and jokes that the pair should do a "shopping dance" with funny movements. However, he promises to "shimmy and shake" the competition up with his personality.
Carrie Ann calls it her "favourite dance of the night by far" as she loves all the "sparkle" Carson brought to the floor despite the lack of technical skill. Len thinks it had "elements of Jagger, swagger and stagger" but hopes that he stays on in the competition as he offered great entertainment and fun.
Bruno says that he "made camp an art form", and that it was worth every second of watching.
Score: 17 out of 30
Dance: The pair struggle during rehearsal with the difficult moves of the Viennese Waltz with J.R. joking at one point that he is "too old" for the competition. However, he keeps on and maintains a positive attitude.
Len thinks he got it "just right" and was one of the best performances of the night, which is sure to get him to next week. Bruno says that he is an inspiration and has good hip movement, admitting that he was not expecting him to be as good since he has never danced before.
Carrie Ann was "touched" by the routine and loves that he is able to bring genuine emotion to the floor on his very first performance. "It was beautiful to see that confidence and that beautiful fluidity and musicality," she adds.
Score: 22 out of 30
Dance: Ricki is thrilled to be partnered with Derek, but gets frustrated when she realises that she is not as good at dancing as she originally thought she would be. However, she keeps on after Derek encourages her, vowing that she did not come to win second place.
Bruno notices that she loved every moment and thinks it was 'wonderful" as it was fluid and had great chemistry. Carrie Ann agrees, saying that they were "like part of one person" and moved well together and put on a beautiful performance.
Len tries not to be nitpicky, but doesn't like her footwork. However, he thinks it was elegant and still enjoyed it very much despite the few mistakes.
Score: 20 out of 30
Dance: Chaz loves the chemistry he shares with Lacey and the fact that she "brings the kid out" of him but struggles with the routine as he is one of the older contestants and overweight.
Carrie Ann says that he didn't disappoint and certainly has a talent for dancing, with sharp and precise footwork. "You have so much joy, you light up this room!" she adds.
Len loves that he came out to enjoy himself and had the right attitude, praising his footwork and timing. Bruno thinks it was "cheeky but so cute and cuddling", and also appreciates his "joyous" attitude.
Score: 17 out of 30
