The Wilson Phillips singer confessed that she feels her lack of knowledge about the ABC competition has allowed her to enter the experience with a "fresh perspective" and be open to learning as much as she could.
"It's been a real ride! I actually never watched the show before and I'd like to think it's an advantage because I really walked in there with a fresh perspective. I had no idea what to expect and that really worked for me. All I knew was that I just had to dance well," Phillips explained to Parade.
"So I just went to my dance lessons and listened to what Tony [Dovolani] had to say and followed his orders and then went out there and executed it. I don't get my head all into the competition and the judges and the millions of people that are watching. I just have to stay laser-beam focused on the dancing."

Phillips went on to reveal that she was surprised by how physically taxing the intense rehearsal sessions can be for the show, adding: "I didn't expect my body to feel like it's been thrown into such a state of shock.
"After I finish doing a dance session, I truly feel like I would benefit from a direct IV of fluid and a stretcher. I just want to be carried out of each dance lesson. They're so exhausting, but they're also really exhilarating."
Phillips has said that she considers fellow contestant JR Martinez to be her biggest competition on Dancing with the Stars.
