Author and activist Bono received harsh feedback during Tuesday night's live broadcast following his tango performance with Schwimmer, which caused panellist Bruno Tonioli to compare him to a "cute little penguin".
The pair have now hit back at the panellists, whose comments they feel were "rude" and "disrespectful".
"I always go out there and give my best and I feel like I've improved week to week and I don't feel like this week was any different," Bono told People. "I've been called an Ewok, a cute and cuddly bear, now tonight a penguin. It's disrespectful to me."
Schwimmer added: "It's rude and unnecessary, and as his friend I'm embarrassed. We are both anti-bullying... Having the judges refer to him as animals or diss his personality, it's unnecessary.
"It's rude and it's going back on everything that people are trying to fix. It's disappointing that it has to be here and it has to be one of my friends."
Bono's mother Cher defended him following the performance, describing the judges' comments as "cheap shots" and insisting that Bono is doing his best.
