The professional dancer was rumoured to be leaving the competition following several incidents this season - including an on-air argument with judge Len Goodman and an apparent heated feud with fellow dancer Derek Hough.
However, according to The Huffington Post, Chmerkovskiy's antics are all part of an act.
"Maks has a contract with the show and is one of its most talked-about dancers. His bad boy ways are all part of his image that makes him so exciting to watch on and off the dance floor," a source told the publication.
"He really is a pussycat in real life. Don't be fooled for one second - like the audience, the producers of the show love him. Only a fool would get fired from one of the biggest hits on television."
Chmerkovskiy's partner during the current season, Hope Solo, recently revealed that she nearly quit the show after an altercation between the pair.
