The war veteran picked up the Mirror Ball Trophy for season 13 with partner Karina Smirnoff on Tuesday night, beating second-placed Rob Kardashian and Cheryl Burke and third-placed Ricki Lake and Derek Hough.
Speaking on Jimmy Kimmel Live after the win, he said: "They gave me an opportunity to come on this show and show America who I am outside of what they know as a veteran or All My Children actor, and just show them I am a person.
"At the same time, [Karina] gave me the opportunity to show the world I have a few moves inside me... like Jagger!"
As for his plans going forward, he said: "I'm going to write a book, continue acting, continue motivational speaking and just share with people who I am and what I've learned in my second chance of life and pass it on to people in their first chance of life.
"I want to continue to be me and share with people."
Martinez also took to his Twitter account after the show, writing: "Freaking amazing!!! Really? Want to thank everyone who voted for Karina Smirnoff & I all season! Perfect finish to a memorable season (sic)."
Smirnoff, who has never won a Mirror Ball Trophy before, wrote on her own feed: "OMG!!!!! The words cannot describe how amazing this feels! Thank u so much 4 supporting us & making our dream come true! We love u!!"
