The military veteran and professional partner Karina Smirnoff triumphed over Rob Kardashian and Cheryl Burke to win the Dancing with the Stars Mirrorball Trophy on Tuesday (November 23).
Martinez, Kardashian and their professional partners were joined by third place finishers Ricki Lake and Derek Hough for a special celebration on Good Morning America.
Asked by GMA hosts Robin Roberts and George Stephanopoulos how it felt to be Dancing with the Stars champion, Martinez said winning the reality series has brought him a remarkable sense of accomplishment.
"It's amazing. We've all been putting in over three months of work into this and [winning] is the ultimate goal," Martinez said. "To be able to hold that [Mirrorball Trophy] up is a tremendous honour. It's the icing on the cake."
Martinez also thanked fellow military veterans for supporting him throughout this season of Dancing with the Stars.
"I've heard a lot from vets. I thought when I first signed up to do [Dancing with the Stars] that I'd be getting a lot of grief from them. They've been very supportive and I think the reason why is they [thought], 'Hey, he's actually got some moves'," he joked.
"[The finalists have] gotten a lot of support for the fact that I think we've all been able to be a voice for our own category of people… It's an inspiration that we've been able to do so much in the past three months."
Following his win on Tuesday, Martinez explained that Dancing with the Stars gave him a chance to show America who he really is.
Dancing with the Stars airs on ABC.
