Sarah Palin's daughter competed on season 11 of the dance competition with partner Mark Ballas, finishing in third place.
She recently joined the lineup of season 15, alongside returning celebrities such as Kirstie Alley, Apolo Anton Ohno and Emmitt Smith.
"You're going to talk about me if I'm in my little life in Alaska or if I'm in LA, so I might as well just have fun with it," People quotes Palin as saying.
"I just think that God provides opportunities like this, and you can either go out and do them or not do them. Do I like to provide for my son? Yes, I do."
She added that she is "not whining" that her reality show Bristol Palin: Life's a Tripp was a ratings flop.
The series was recently at the centre of a lawsuit after talent manager Stephen Hanks claimed a verbal confrontation he had with the TV star was taped for the show without his permission.
