Despite finishing at the top of the judges' leaderboard after the results from Monday's country-themed performance show and last week's individual and group dances were combined, the pair still had the lowest overall score when the judges' totals were combined with viewer votes.
Judges Len Goodman, Carrie Ann Inaba and Bruno Tonioli all looked shocked as the result was read out to boos from the studio audience. Apolo Anton Ohno and Karina Smirnoff, who picked up a perfect score on Monday night (October 29), also fell into the bottom two.
"We are as shocked right now in season five when you stood here," Brooke Burke Charvet told the pair.
Bryan said following her elimination: "Everyone, every single person can understand what it feels like to get a second chance at something... last night was one of the most beautiful nights I've ever had.
"Louis, I'm so grateful for you and grateful for this experience and Dancing with the Stars has just been an absolute dream."
Thanking fans who voted her onto the All-Stars show as a wildcard contestant, Bryan added: "I did my absolute best because of you guys."
Van Amstel said: "I think last night summed up how I feel about Sabrina, that rumba, how much she opened up to America... unfortunately, our journey finishes here."
Special musical guests Taylor Swift and Jason Mraz appeared on Tuesday night's (October 30) results show.
Swift gave a rendition of her latest single 'We Are Never Ever Ever Getting Back Together' to promote her new album Red and ABC's upcoming coverage of the CMA Awards on Thursday evening (November 1).
