Dancing with the Stars drops Brooke Burke-Charvet as host

Brooke Burke-Charvet has been dropped as co-host of Dancing with the Stars, it has been revealed.

The show's seventh season champion tweeted the news on Friday, writing: "Weird day… Shocking pre-season elimination #DWTS…ME. @Tom_Bergeron didn't even read my name. I won't be returning to the show this season."

Burke-Charvet later told E! News: "I've seen my fair share of shocking eliminations in the ballroom but this one takes the cake.

"I've always been one to embrace change and looking forward to pursuing opportunities I previously wasn't able to entertain because of contractual obligations to the show."

The actress took over from former co-host Samantha Harris in 2010.

Bosses at the show have recently started implementing changes, including to its format.

The 18th season of Dancing with the Stars will premiere on March 17.
