Yep, the actor best known for playing 24's ruthless Jack Bauer will soon be back on our screens, but which other TV stars deserve another shot at the limelight?
This week's Friday Fiver takes a look at those actors who don't currently have a show of their shown... but should!
First up - an actor with a link to Sutherland. As stoic US President David Palmer, Haysbert won a legion of fans and made a fine counterpoint to Sutherland's Bauer throughout the first five seasons of 24. He later took the lead in CBS action-drama The Unit but since that show's cancellation in 2009, Haysbert has been absent from our TV screens - bar the odd commercial for Allstate Insurance. This man deserves better - give him his own series now!
It's been a tough old time for Perry since Friends drew to a close in 2004. His cable pilot End of Steve never made it to air, and he's had two great shows - NBC's Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip and ABC's Mr Sunshine - cancelled after a single season. Someone needs to give this very talented and funny man a real shot at a TV comeback.
Forest Whitaker isn't exactly struggling for work - the Oscar-winner has a thriving film career. But his TV work has been somewhat less illustrious. After a phenomenal performance in the fifth season of The Shield and a memorable guest turn on ER, we were thrilled when we heard Whitaker would be returning to television. But the end result - by-the-numbers procedural Criminal Minds: Suspect Behaviour - was less than inspiring. We think Whitaker would be better suited to a more cerebral drama, perhaps on FX or Showtime...
Another star whose career isn't exactly in trouble, but we'd love Amy to get her own show! Ms. Ryan has proved that she's equally adept at both comedy and drama - she was just as good in HBO's In Treatment as she was on NBC's The Office - so we'd be happy to see her return to TV in either genre. Just so long as she's back for good!
Royo's multi-layered performance as drug addict turned police informant Bubbles was one of the highlights of HBO's superb drama The Wire. We were overjoyed when he popped up on Fringe last season, but other TV roles have been a little thin on the ground. There have been guest stints in Memphis Beat and How to Make It in America - but we want Andre back on TV full-time!
