Scott Bruton has been eliminated from The X Factor tonight after competing against Daniel Evans in the sing-off.
The contestants found themselves in the bottom two after performing in a Big Band theme night on the ITV1 talent show. While Bruton had sang Frank Sinatra's 'That's Life', Evans had given a rendition of Sinatra's 'The Lady Is A Tramp'.
Once the results were announced, both acts were given another chance to impress the judges with a song of their choice. Bruton, 19, took to the stage first, performing 'I Can't Make You Love Me', made famous by George Michael. Evans, 38, then sang Josh Groban's 'To Where You Are', dedicating the performance to his late wife.
The final decision then lay in the hands of judges Simon Cowell, Louis Walsh, Dannii Minogue and Cheryl Cole. While Bruton was supported by Cowell, Evans was backed by the rest of the panel, who praised him for performing with "passion" in the sing-off.
Asked for his reaction, Bruton's mentor Cowell explained: "It was one of those nights. You know, a couple of years ago that would have kept you in, but it was just bad luck tonight. The standard was high."
Bruton later thanked his family and supporters, adding: "It's been emotional."
The X Factor continues with a Disco theme night next Saturday at 7.30pm on ITV1.
