Phillip
Johnny B Good.
Phillip be bad, unfortunately.
He doesn’t exude confidence and certainly didn’t seem to be having a good time up there. He said he enjoyed it so why not look like he is? The vocal wasn’t up to standard and his moves were embarrassing.
On a plus point he was better than he was last week.
Simon compared him to Shakin’ Stevens. Let’s hope Shaky doesn’t sue.

Brenda
Brenda has set the bar really high in the first two weeks. She gave a spirited rendition of Midnight Train to Georgia which was truly marvellous though the magic of the previous songs wasn’t quite there for me.
It’ll be interesting to see if Brenda can keep this really high standard as the weeks continue.

Shayne
Shayne is undoubtedly talented though taking on Bryan Adam’s Summer of 69 was probably a mistake.
I really didn’t think the song suited his image and he seems too smooth to attempt rock.

The joker in the pack certainly commands the attention but so would a car crash.
If he could direct some of that boundless energy into improving his vocal then he would be far better placed to continue in the competition.
It was pure cheese this week.

The Conway Sisters
They sang Total Eclipse of the Heart and it could have been a total eclipse of their talent.
The end of the song was quite enjoyable but there were one or two dodgy moments earlier on.

Chenai
If Chenai could just conquer her nerves, she could yet emerge as a cracking little artiste.
She gave a decent version of Hero though her voice did crack with emotion at times.
If she can gain more confidence she could yet figure in the final stages.

Andy
I’ve been critical of Andy’s moves so it was good to see him sat on a stool this week. If this were Come Dancing he’d have been off in week one.
He gave very competent effort this week with Unforgettable. Very smooth and very enjoyable.

Journey South
Oh dear.
Is Simon trying to get out of the competition early?
The boys attempted U2’s Angel of Harlem and sounded more like a pub act than ever.

Nicholas
There was a husky quality to Nicholas’s voice this week. Coupled with a display that could rival Chico for cheese and quite a lot of bum notes this was not his finest hour.
Vocal coaching is definitely required.

Maria
Maria managed to take a little piece of my heart this week.
Best of the night.
Sensational.

Worst on the night: Chico
The showdown
I was in total agreement with this week’s bottom two. Both Chico and Phillip have been living on borrowed time and they were both fortunate to have got this far.
Phillip sounded strangely hollow on his reprise though his dance moves had plenty of energy. It was a brave effort.
As you’d expect, Chico turned the clownery up to the max and worked the audience as hard as he could. They were a friendly crowd and easily swayed. However it was Simon he had to impress.
Chico survived by the skin of his teeth and thanks to Simon’s good grace.
