Perez Hilton has predicted that the planned US version of The X Factor will not be as successful as its British counterpart.

Simon Cowell is reportedly hoping to launch the show across the pond next year and is said to have approached Cheryl Cole and Louis Walsh to appear as judges.

Hilton spoke out after hearing that this weekend's live instalments pulled in nearly half of the available audience share. Sunday's results episode featured performances from Cole and Whitney Houston.

The celebrity blogger told the Daily Star: "Fifty per cent of the viewing public? That's insane. I can guarantee you Simon Cowell will not be able to replicate that kind of success when he brings the show to America."

He added: "I think the show did so well this weekend because of Cheryl Cole. I am a Cheryl fan and I like her new single, but I don't love it as much as I thought I would.

"The public loves Cheryl because they can relate to her. She is far from perfect. They've seen her grow up, from Popstars to marrying Ashley."

Cole's debut solo song 'Fight For This Love' is expected to become the fastest-selling single of the year so far.
