MacDonald Brothers out on 'X Factor'

The MacDonald Brothers finally got the boot from The X Factor this evening, narrowly missing out on a spot in the semi-final.

For the first time, the decision on who left rested entirely with the viewers. After more than 3.5 million votes cast, Ray, Leona and Ben all earned spots in the top three.

"It's been the biggest thing we've ever done in our whole lives," said Brian when the result was announced. "We just thank everybody that's supported us."

Their mentor Louis, who is now out of the competition, said he "really enjoyed" working with the pair, adding: "But I won last year!"

Simon, meanwhile, paid tribute to the brothers' resilience. "These guys have behaved like men throughout," he said. "No whining, good luck to you."
